We all have the friend or loved one who seems to have it all, or who’s impossible to shop for. The solution is “Clairvoyant,” a pop-up shop and retail experiment open December 10th, 11th, and 12th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. From noon until 10PM, visitors can come visit our clairvoyant and feng shui master, Judith Auora Ryan, and seek higher guidance on what to get for that special someone.
“Clairvoyant” will offer amazing items at a wide range of prices from more than twenty of our friends, including Alter, Kiosk, Cabinet Magazine, In God We Trust, Design Glut, and Other Music. More info and a brief teaser is at http://www.subports.com/, and on the flyer attached.
ShootBooth will be making portraits of everyone who consults our clairvoyant, and printing them into elegant cards.
“Clairvoyant”
December 10 + 11 + 12, 2009
Noon – 10pm 303 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY
Naughty Santas. Sexy Butchers. Asian Hotdogs. ShootBooth. And the backbone of the BK Meatup: Park Slope’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, cheap drinks, and a DJ.
As far as themed parties go, “naughty office holiday party” sounds about as open-ended as it gets. We’ll be on the lookout for eager janitors, saucy librarians, vice president leches, and the free massages that Brooklyn Based promises will be there.
And for our part: The Sidecar will be snapping portraits and printing pictures of the good and mischievous alike posing with resident naughty santas– who happen to include possibly the sexiest farmers on earth: Michael Grady Robertson from Queens County Farm and Annie Novak from Greenpoint’s Rooftop Farms.
The Sidecar has been brought into this world a healthy, 29-pound baby, in the image and shape of a 1909 wooden James & Burke view camera. It’s awesome.
You can come out for an olde-fashioned portrait this weekend at the Brooklyn Flea in DUMBO. We’re allied with Brooklyn Based, the newsletter you should really, genuinely, be subscribing to for cultural goings-on. Even if you live in midtown. They’ve curated a very cool lineup of local folk: Tom Mylan + Meat Hook , Jezebel letterpress, Mama O’s Kimchee…. Peep the whole lineup (for Saturday and Sunday) here: http://brooklynbased.net/everything/our-corner-of-the-brooklyn-flea/
Free prints and throwback outfits — we dress the era — on Sunday Sunday Sunday. We’ll be directly beneath the Brooklyn bridge from 11 – 5. As usual, cross fingers for a dry day (Gore-Tex is not part of our outfit).
*** Now on Sunday, October 25th, so you can come without your umbrella, ella, ella. [Okay, that joke is 9 months behind the times. It's late.]
We had a lot of flippers and divers, and it seems only right to share.
You can see a handful of our favorites here, along with some street views of the merriment.
Thanks much to all who assisted in making our park a great gathering spot: Ari Meisel for empowering us, Brooklyn Raga Association for the airy drones, Josephine on the accordion, Hugh Hayden for the extraordinary red garment, and god for growing grass in 2′ x 5′ units.
Most awesomest Park(ing) Day ever. (In fairness, it was only our second.) Above: Julia Day, Transportation Alternatives’ NYC coordinator taking a dip in The 10K. More pictures to follow soon.
Pray for the rainclouds to go far, far away, and join us for our second year participating in Park(ing) Day. For *one* *day* *only*: dozens of parking spaces across the boroughs of New York (as well as San Francisco, Seoul, Santiago, and lots of other world cities that don’t start with the letter S.) are converted into community-led parks. The value of the parking space is lots more than a place to park a car.
So this Friday, September 18th, we’ll be spearheading activity at two parking spots on West Broadway and Prince Street. Look for grass, Indian music by the Brooklyn Raga Association, an original piece by artist / architect / furniture maker Hugh Hayden, beautiful hand-carved booksafes filled with unusual wares courtesy of Subports, an impromptu accordion performance, and our 10K ballpit making prints for passersby (and jumpers-in). Come say hello and spend some time with us. And again, hope for dry skies.
Oh, and have something to contribute? Send us an email or drop on in.
double oh: Park(ing) Day is an original concept by Rebar. www.rebargroup.org
We brought The Sidecar to an incredible backyard wedding on the Long Island Sound this weekend… Ben, at the heart of the pyramid, demonstrates his commitment, dependability, balance, and determination. Awesome night.
The 10K, version 1.0; innumerable improvements to come.
Thanks to Youngna for horizontal pictures, Pepsi for hydration, Diplo for beats, Philadelphia for love, and Ryder for giving us twice the truck we’ll ever need.
